German magazine Autobild has put together a new set of renderings showcasing the upcoming BMW X7. The computer generated images take some design cues from the recently unveiled 5 Series – an oversized kidney grille with a thick outer edge made out of chrome – and the slim and sleek taillights. The front-end could be described in a single word as being massive, with large air intakes and bumper, and a high riding position. The side view shows a typical BMW SUV, with tight and sporty panels, along with the hockey stick made popular by the new 7 Series.
In the back, we have a large tailgate with a roof spoiler, paired with long taillights that wrap around the corners. The sculpted surfaces give the X7 not only a sporty look, but also a premium one as well.
The BMW X7 will sit above the X5 and X6, competing with the Mercedes-Benz GLS Class and Range Rover, in the full-sized luxury SUV segment which simply dominates the luxury market, at least in America. Range Rovers, big Benzes and Cadillac Escalades are some of the most popular luxury vehicles in America, so it only makes sense that BMW would want in on some of the action.

The large, luxurious SUV will be longer and larger than the X5, with a length of 5,25 m. It will house 7 passengers and will offer cabin space and luxury like no other BMW before.
In terms of powertrains, the 3.0 twin-turbo I6 from the 740i is likely to be the standard engine with the 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8 from the 750i being the top-end engine, much like the 7 Series. A plug-in hybrid variant is probable and maybe even a variant with the 6.6 liter twin-turbo V12 from the M760Li is possible.
BMW is rumored to launch two variants of the X7. One of them will be a highly luxurious X7 with a price tag above $100,000. We’ve also learned that the standard X7 and the ultra-luxurious one will be easily distinguishable , thanks to different styling options.
The X7 will be unveiled in 2018 with sales beginning in 2019.
