While the world is still wondering what BMW is going to do with the upcoming BMW 6 Series and whether the 8 Series will take its place, other people are still enthralled by the original. We recently stumbled upon a brilliant BMW 635CSi rebuild model that was carefully put together over the last five years to pay a worthy tribute to the original racer of the 1980s.
The Group 2 racer of that era proved to be one of the best cars BMW ever made for the track. With people like Dieter Schmidt behind its wheel, the BMW race car was a menace on the track.
The BMW 635CSi Group 2 Race Car was put together to oblige the strictest FIA standards which were in place when the E24 was actually racing. To honor the efforts of the team that put it together, FIA even issued a certificate proving that this BMW 635CSi is compliant with the Group 2 regulations of the 1980s. The specs of the beast are also damn impressive, in case you thought only the looks were appealing.
Under the hood hides a 3.5-liter straight six engine that’s good for 330 HP using a dry sump among other things. There’s also a Motorsport Getrag gearbox thrown in the mix along with correct Group 2 front and rear suspensions on ball joints, 4-pot AP Lockheed calipers with 330mm discs, a fully welded chassis, correct alloy front legs, alternator driven by differential, 75% LSD and fiberglass hood, truck and front bumper just to name a few.
The best part about this car though is the fact that it can be yours. The price tag sits at €175,000 ($190,000) which, for a car that has only 100 miles on the odometer and hailing from that era is not a lot, by any means.
