For the life of me, I can’t understand why BMW doesn’t sell its new 5 Series Touring in America. It’s such a good looking wagon that adds practicality to the already excellent 5 Series. So, because we can’t get it in the ‘States, we have to go all the way to Geneva to see it.

The new BMW 5 Series is a very handsome, if somewhat reserved looking car as it is. Adding the long roof makes it even better looking, if you ask this guy. Plus, it adds a sense of practicality that the sedan doesn’t have, which makes it eve cooler.

In the premium wagon segment, the BMW 5 Series Touring competes with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate, Audi A6 Avant and Jaguar XF Estate. It’s tough sledding in this segment, as all of these cars are great looking wagons that boast great driving dynamics to go with their practical good looks. But the new long-roof 5 Series is one of the better looking wagons in the segment, so it should do quite well.

The 5 Series Touring will get the same powertrain options as the sedan, which means the typical suite of BMW’s diesel and petrol engines. With the added practicality of the wagon body style, it’s most likely that the diesel engines become the more popular. However, can you imagine the stunning B58 3.0 liter I6 in a BMW 540i Touring? Sign me up.
