Only a few months after the takeover of the German supplier Grohmann Engineering, its new owner, Elon Musk, changes the rules: According to a report from finanzen.net, the Tesla boss has ensured that BMW and Daimler will no longer be supplied by Grohmann. The company, which is located in the Eifel, was bought by Tesla last November and is apparently no longer able supply its plants to German competitors.
The plant builder is one of the most important figures in its industry and has also received awards from the BMW Group in the past. In 2014, Grohmann Engineering received the “Supplier Innovation Award” from the BMW Group. The world’s most successful supplier of premium automobiles is using the technology from Grohmann, among other things, in the production of the innovative BMW i8 hybrid sports car, which can also be viewed as a Tesla competitor in the widest sense.
Grohmann Engineering is also so important to Tesla because Elon Musk has made great promises in the past. Sales in the next months and years are to be increased dramatically. In 2018, 500,000 vehicles of the young electric car brand are to be sold worldwide. From the year 2020, even seven-digit sales figures are planned, which also needs to address Quality Assurance issues that arrive with mass scale production of cars.
The Tesla Model 3, with which the company of Elon Musk wants to attack in the premium middle class, will largely contribute to the sales increase. The hatchback sedan with electric drive is expected to hit the market in the US this year at an attractive price of $35,000. The goal is clear: Tesla would like to win market shares within a short period of time and continue to position itself as a pioneer in electromobility.
