Now that the veils are off the new BMW G30 5 Series, the whole world is trying to figure out what the king of the range will look like. In the last week we’ve seen plenty of renderings and even a leaked CAD design of the front end of the upcoming M5 all. The design and specs of the future BMW F90 M5 are still well hidden but it can’t be drastically different from this rendering.
The latest renderer to throw his name in the hat is Jonsibal and he put together one of the best takes on what the future M5 will look like. His design took after the aforementioned leaked patent design and we think he might be right on the money with this one. With wide air intakes on the sides, M grilles up front and the M5 badge up there shining, this is pretty much what the new M sedan will look like.
What remains to be seen now is what the Germans decided to throw under the sheet metal. According to the latest info, the engine under the hood will be an upgraded version of the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 that will make close to 600 HP. The figure isn’t set in stone right now but it won’t vary too much on the production car. Furthermore, all-wheel drive will be making an appearance, but it’s not yet certain whether it will be as an optional feature or as standard.
Even if the latter scenario proves to be the correct one, Frank van Meel assured us that it will be a drastically RWD-biased system that will only send power to the front wheels during launches and when it is really needed. That said, coupled with the 100 kg (220 lbs) weight drop we’re expecting compared to its predecessor, the new M5 will probably hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in under 4 seconds, a more than noticeable change compared to its predecessor. Let’s just hope that it will also be a drastic upgrade on the track, not just in straight line racing. However, we’re still pretty far off from the car’s unveiling that is scheduled late next year.
